Study in Germany from India: APS, Timeline, Costs — The Complete Route

Indian students are one of the largest international groups at German universities — and the route from India has one extra, mandatory station that many agents underplay: the APS certificate.

India-specific requirements

  • APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle, New Delhi): mandatory verification of your academic documents before any visa appointment. Plan several weeks for it and do it first, not last.
  • 13 years of education rule: after 10+2 you usually need either one year of bachelor study in India, a strong JEE Advanced result, or a Studienkolleg year in Germany — we check which door is open for you.
  • English programs: IELTS/TOEFL almost always required even where the brochure is vague; German programs need certified B2/C1.

Money, realistically

  • Blocked account ~€11,904/year (as of 2026) — plan the transfer early; Indian bank clearance for large foreign transfers takes time.
  • Public universities: near-zero tuition (₹ mostly for living costs). Private universities: €5,000–20,000/year — sometimes still cheaper overall than comparable programs in the US/UK/Australia.

A realistic timeline

  • 9–12 months before intake: program selection, APS application, language tests.
  • 6–9 months: applications (uni-assist or direct), offers.
  • 3–6 months: blocked account, insurance, visa file, appointment.
  • 0–3 months: interview, decision, flight, accommodation.

We coordinate the German side from Germany and guide you through the Indian side step by step — APS, attestations, embassy — with no service fee at our partner universities.
